OUR NEW HOUSE OF MERCY

From the time we began to discuss our plan with the XinMi City government to the actual building took almost two years; things often go slowly in China. First we wrote up and signed a contract agreeing to build a house with each party responsible for half the costs. Next the land had to be purchased. Jane had drawn up her own a plan for building and at just the right time a young construction engineer offered to have it done professionally free of charge. It was Summer 1999 before actual construction began.

In October our home was finished and furnished. The XinMi Civil Administration paid for the yard and gardens that provides a wonderful fenced in home and play area for the children. Our new building provided four apartments that could be used for homes for 30 children.
