FAMILY BACKGROUND:

Just before the child's birth, his father had an accident on a motorcycle. A truck hit him and left him with a brain injury. Two years later when Tong xin was about 2 years old his parents got divorced and his mother left them. She later found herself a new husband and actually lived not too far away from the boy. The neighbor told us he had never seen his mother for about 5 years. When Tong xin was asked if he had seen his mother this year or last, he said, "No".

A few years later his father had another accident and hurt one of his arms preventing him from getting a job. He ran away, completely deserting the little boy, and for about 2 years nobody was able to locate him or get hold of him. A lovely couple who lived nearby had great compassion over this little boy and had been taking care of him since his father left since they had a son who was in the same school and class with Tong xin.

His grandpa died many years ago and we were told that grandma drank poison and died at home years ago. So this family was just full of tragedies.
