Family Background:

Ran Ya fei's parents were married in 1996 and got divorced in 1999. Her mother had many health problems including lung cancer and hepatitis B. She died in 2001. After the divorce her father never visited her. She was living with her grandparents who received $16 a month from the government because of their poverty. Their living conditions were so filthy. The boards and blankets - everything stenched terribly. They had a pig and did some farming.

The teacher in the countryside said Ya fei did very well on easy tasks and on more difficult tests was able to make at least 80%. She was also active but a very good girl in class. She would leave for school at 5:30 to 6:00 every morning and return home around 5 PM at night.

Ya fei has proved to be a lovely active little girl with loads of energy, smiles and happiness. She is unselfish and loves the other children.
